The Delivery Scam that Almost Got Me

A few months ago, I got a text message claiming that a package couldn’t be delievered unless I confirmed my address. The link I clicked on was pretty much the same as the UPS site, and the message even used proper branding. The purpose was simple: steal my information and credit card numbers.

Once I opened the link, the website asked me to pay a “small redelivery fee.” That fee was supposed to get me. If I had typed in my card information the scammers would have had full access to whatever they wanted on my card. Right then, I knew it was a scam.

Looking back, there were signs I could have caught earlier. The sender had a random phone number, with non UPS domain. For anyone dealing with something similar, slowing down and verifying the source is the best way to find the hoax, if something feels “slightly off,” it usually is.
